Black garlic

To release the medicinal properties in garlic – a compound called allicin – garlic has to be chewed raw, crushed or sliced.

Black garlic is even more medicinally powerful than regular garlic. It is normal garlic that has been aged through a process called the ‘Maillard reaction’ – the garlic bulbs are heated to 76°C / 170°F for 30 days, giving it a distinctive black colour. During this fermentation process, the allicin in garlic is turned into a more powerful antioxidant called S-allyl-cysteine which is highly beneficial for the body.

It can reduce inflammation, extinguish free radicals from environmental toxins (these are reactive molecules that damage cells) and boost liver function. Black garlic has also shown promising results in destroying cancer cells, especially lung, breast and stomach cancer cells. Broccoli sprouts

Broccoli sprouts are the young baby plants of broccoli – the first green shoots to appear after broccoli seeds have germinated. Broccoli sprouts are part of the cruciferous vegetable family which are known for their detoxification properties. Naturally high in a compound called sulforaphane, broccoli sprouts have shown to improve liver enzyme activity, increase production of glutathione (an antioxidant that protects cells from damage) and reduce the stress that is imposed on the body from alcohol, drugs and environmental chemicals.

Turmeric

Grapefruits contain a plant compound called flavonoids that may inhibit certain enzymes in the liver, slowing down drug excretion and therefore increasing their half-life. As it is concentrated, matcha is much more potent than green tea and one cup of matcha is equivalent to drinking 10 cups of green tea.
